Buttons, Lace and Pastels

I'm back today to share my project for the new Stamps and Stencils challenge. Cec is our lovely host and she has chosen Pastels as the theme, here's what she has to say:

We have been treated to a riot of bright, warm colour since the spring bulbs made their appearance and continuing throughout summer and fall so let's go in the opposite direction and make a project with soft, pastel colours.  Don't forget to include some stamping or stenciling or both in your creation.

Thinking cap was definitely on for this project, pastel shades are not something I would work with normally so I had to get my head around the paler shades before I could think about what to do.

I rescued an old signing book a while back and this is what I've used as the substrate for this project.

After a coat of Gesso I used a stencil with crackle paste to add some background detail. This is one of my favourite stencils but I've not got the packet any longer so I don't know who it's by unfortunately. I then grabbed my bag of buttons and lace and started to arrange them on the front.

Another coat of Gesso once everything was glued securely.

I gathered together pale shades of green Fresco Finish paints and starting with Honeydew I painted over the buttons and lace. I wanted to keep some white space, which for me is so hard !

I layered up the colours, Theresa Green, Granny Smith and a little Zucchini Fresco Finish paints. I then lightly brushed White Fire Fresco Finish over some of the buttons and then some PaperArtsy Metallic Glaze.

The word Dream is wooden and I've painted it and brushed more Metallic Glaze over it.

I used a babywipe to dab on more Metalic Glaze and White Fire Fresco Finish paint.

Finding the right sentiment for projects can be difficult I find, they either are too large, wrong font or they just don't feel right, however when I looked at the Oxford Impressions stamp sets I have this sentiment jumped out at me.

Although I was not sure where to start with a pastel project, I actually quite like how this turned out, the Metallic Glaze gives a beautiful shimmer to the pale colour.

I hope you can join us for this challenge and do make sure you hop over to Stamps and Stencils to see the rest of the DT's fabulous projects.
