Chalk it up at Frilly and Funkie

Today is the start of the second week of the Frilly and Funkie challenge which is Chalk it Up. The lovely Shelly is our host and here's what she's got to say:

I thought it would be fun to experiment with chalk techniques - whether it's stamping with chalk inks, using a faux chalkboard technique, coloring with chalks, or even dabbling in your art journal with sticks of chalk - we want to see what you can create using chalk as a theme!

I was a little stumped at first with this one but I hopped onto Pinterest looking for inspiration and decided to create a chalkboard style project. I started with the frame and painted it with Chocolate Pudding Fresco Finish acrylic paint, then I rubbed some Vaseline on different parts.

The top coat is Chalk Fresco Finish acrylic paint and then I've sanded it lightly and where the Vaseline is the paint has rubbed off beautifully.

I cut a piece of thick cardboard and gave it two coats of black Gesso and a top coat of satin glaze. I then planned out the words and drew light guide lines with pencil before starting to write using a white Sharpie pen.

The flowers were stamped and white heat embossed then I used Ken Oliver Colour Burst to water colour the flowers.

The stars, which are from as Artistic Oupost set, are stamped using white ink.

I hope you get chance to join us for this challenge and do make sure you hop over to Frilly and Funkie and check out the rest of the DT's fabulous projects.

  5. Your frame is wonderful and the flowers pop against the chalkboard. If you ever need extra money you could hire yourself out to do restaurant chalk menu boards because your text is fantastic.
    Hugs!
