I want you to think about what the coming of spring means to you? Is it a colour burst, or maybe flowers? Whatever it is I would like you to show us in a mixed media piece including stamping or stencilling or both! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
I've not made a card in absolutely ages and as there's a couple of occasions coming up I thought I would indulge myself as this is where my crafty journey began. Spring for me always starts when the Daffodils start to flower so yellow is an immediate thought and starting point. I brayered some Smoothy card with Banana, Yellow Submarine and then some Granny Smith Fresco Finish paints.
I used a Lin Brown stencil and did the 'bumping' technique to create a light shadow.
Another Lin Brown stencil to add the flowers, I was beginning to think it's all a little too bright at this point.
I did some stamping using Emma Godfrey's new stamps using Snowflake Fresco Finish and Leaf Green Archival ink. Now I really did think it was way too bright so the next step was to give the whole thing a wash of watered down Snowflake Fresco Finish, unfortunately I didn't take a photo of this step though.
Now you're probably wondering how I got from the previous photo to the finished one as they look nothing like one another ! After the wash of Snowflake I wanted to add some texture so used a TCW stencil with some Whipped Spackle then I spritzed it with a Lindy's Stamp Gang spray. I've just about obliterated all of the stencilling but I like to think that it adds depth.
The tag was painted with Fresco Finish paint then a coat of Crackle Glaze, the top coat was a mixture of Cheesecake with a little Granny Smith Fresco Finish paint. I've stamped over it using a Lin Brown stamp with Leaf Green Archival ink. The Sunflower (which I know isn't quite Spring!) was stamped twice onto card that I'd painted with Cheesecake Fresco Finish. I painted and cut them out and layered them on top of each other. The layer below the flower is some fabric that I've burnt the edges of, being very careful as it was quite flammable !
The text is stamped onto a scrap piece of card that had some stencilling on it then I've stuck it to a piece of Greyboard to create a tile. A little Gold and Little Black Dress Fresco Finish around the edge to finish it off. To add a little bit of glimmer I spritzed the whole thing with gold Lindys Stamp Gang spray.
I hope you find some time to join us for this challenge and do make sure you hop over to the Stamps and Stencils blog to see the fabulous projects from the rest of the DT.
